It's that time of year again!

Planning for the 2017 Pioneer Run 5K is underway. Nearly everything is the same as last year, with one minor addition, we're trying out pre-registration this year. In an effort to try to get a better idea of how many folks will show up for our event, we're asking participants that know they'll be able to make it to the event to sign-up ahead of time. This helps in planning how many bibs, water bottles, and bananas we'll need.

The Kiwanis will continue to be the primary sponsor for this event. For those that aren't familiar with the great work they do throughout our community, we've asked if they could provide us with some info about their organization:

"The Greenhills Forest Park Kiwanis has supported the children and families of our communities since 1954. This includes great community activities like the Pioneer Run. Proceeds from the 2017 Pioneer Run will support the Kiwanis Scholarship fund. This Spring we gave six $2000 scholarships to outstanding students from Winton Woods High School, Roger Bacon High School and a Home Schooled student. Thanks for your continued support."

Last year's event allowed us to contribute over $600 to the scholarship fund! For more info about the Kiwanis, visit their website at

If you have any questions or concerns about the event, please contact us at Also, feel free to give us feedback, good or bad, so we can make future races the best we can.

Thank you again to all of the volunteers and racers that come out year after year to make this such a special event!

This race was started 38 years ago by local runner Bob Carlson.  Bob is no longer with us, but his vision lives on!  One of Bob's goals for the event was to have it be inexpensive, which was displayed in the early entry fees being only $1.  Due to planning costs Bob reluctantly raised the entry fees to $5.  It's a perfect race for new runners, as well as those that are looking for an enjoyable run through beautiful Greenhills!
