A new route was selected in 2008 for a couple reasons:
The biggest reason being a safety concern, so that there is no longer a need to cross Winton Road getting to the starting line and during the race.
The second reason is more a convenience for racers, spectators, and race coordinators by keeping the starting and finish lines centered around the Greenhills Commons.
